why is “police should be the only ones with assault rifles” considered a progressive stance on gun control

“These guns were only made for one thing- mowing down lots of people in a short period of time. That’s why our police need them and you don’t. Never know when a police officer will need to indiscriminately murder a crowd of people but I want him to have the tools to do so. I know that’s what this gun is for because I used it to mow down Iraqis so I’m an expert in violence prevention.”

A part of being an adult is living with regret and not allowing it to consume you. The older you get, the more mistakes you’ve made, opportunities you’ve missed, people you’ve disappointed. And every day you have to remind yourself to be kind and forgiving of yourself. You accept and love the you from the past and understand that it’s all a part of the process. Then you move on and live your best life, knowing now as old as you feel today, you’ll never be this young again.

Those poor Parkland teenagers are figureheads for a bunch of gun control orgs whose ‘politics’ and language surrounding mental health is drenched in ableism and based on armchair diagnosing murderers. This was inspiring for maybe to weeks total and now I’m just distrustful and jaded again.

Oh and I just saw the video where they have these kids talmbout how assault weapons should only be used by the military and the police so That’s Definitely Over for me. That movement is dead, they’re not getting more of my time because as “intersectional” as this thing is on the surface level, them stanning the police and being a-okay with gun violence against innocent victims of the American military let’s me know this is just repackaged rhetoric I’ve heard before.
