girl why do ppl who dont have an ounce of empathy love going into health care fields so much like ok susan you hate kids why are you majoring in pediatrics

Because they want to be seen as good people.

Because otherwise there wouldn’t be anyone around to give shots, set bones, give chemo, break bad news, or deal with emergency medical situations, because all the empathetic people would be busy having second-hand panic attacks and crying in the supply closet. One of the first things you have to do going into medicine is train away your empathy. It is not a field of work where you can be feeling the distress of your clients because all your clients are distressed and if you don’t learn how not to feel it, it’ll kill you.

A doctor should be a lot of things towards their patients: caring, compassionate, understanding. They should under no circumstances be empathetic.

The real question is.. why do you seem to think all autistics and trauma survivors with lower-than-average empathy are irredeemable monsters that are incapable of interacting with another person with compassion or, hell, even tact? And why do you think that makes you an ounce better than Pediatric Susan Who Hates Kids? Ruminate on that for a while.
